Artificial Disc Replacement

Introduction

At Stavya: Center for Neck & Back Care, we believe that spine surgery should not only relieve pain — it should help you move freely again.

Unlike traditional fusion surgery, which permanently joins two vertebrae, disc replacement restores both cushioning and mobility — allowing you to return to your daily activities faster and with greater comfort.

How the Surgery Works

At Stavya, the procedure is performed in our Class 100 modular operation theatres, equipped with robotic navigation, O-arm 3D imaging, and intraoperative neuromonitoring to ensure unmatched precision and safety.

The procedure typically involves the following steps:

  • A small incision is made at the front of the neck (for cervical) or lower back (for lumbar).
  • The damaged disc is carefully removed to release pressure on the nerves.
  • A specially designed artificial disc implant, made of medical-grade metal and polymer, is inserted in place of the old disc.
  • The implant mimics the natural disc’s motion and alignment, allowing smooth and flexible movement.
  • The incision is closed — and most patients are able to walk within a day or two.

Is ADR Right for You?

Not all back or neck pain cases require disc replacement.

At Stavya, we first recommend non-surgical treatments such as physiotherapy, medication, or targeted spinal injections.

If surgery becomes necessary, our specialists carefully evaluate whether Artificial Disc Replacement or Spinal Fusion is the most suitable option based on your spine health, age, and daily lifestyle needs.
